WHAT WE DO
We conduct Labour Market Research to provide insights for our partners into workforce availability. We deliver wage subsidies and facilitate career placement opportunities to help employers reduce the risk of hiring and allow biotechnology workers access to unique opportunities in their field. We provide job search and candidate search tools to connect employers with talent, and we provide professional development opportunities for workers to develop the skills they need to support Canada’s bio-economy. We are looking for a Financial Analyst to join our team! This is a 1-year contract, with the possibility of permanency if extended.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Financial Analyst supports accurate financial reporting, compliance, and planning through reconciliations, database management, and analysis. Reporting to the VP, Finance, responsibilities include assisting with budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, management reporting and government reporting. The role also involves improving controls and financial systems and supporting related change initiatives.
In this role you can expect to:
- Process transactions into the General Ledger
- Reconcile ledger accounts to other financial records (e.g., bank statements, sub-ledgers), resolving discrepancies promptly to maintain data integrity
- Build, maintain, and update financial databases for tracking financial metrics, forecasting, and historical data analysis
- Perform financial analyses to provide data and insights to the VP, Finance to assist with budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow planning
- Support managerial and external reporting requirements, ensuring compliance and clarity
- Develop and maintain processes to ensure financial data is stored accurately and that records are organized effectively for audits and financial reviews
- Validate accuracy of work and that of colleagues to ensure reports are accurate
- Support with tax remittance process and maintain required financial documentation in alignment with regulations and policies
- Aid with the enforcement of finance and corporate policies as relates to financial expenditures
- Assist with change management initiatives related to finance systems, helping to integrate new tools or updates smoothly
- Respond to financial requests from the Senior Leadership team and provide information as needed
- Collaborate with colleagues on the Finance team and share in the distribution of duties to achieve overall team goals and deadlines
- Provide recommendations for process or system improvements
- Act as a resource and backup for payroll functions when necessary
- Work with internal team members to improve BioTalent Canada’s accounts receivable collections
- Support lead generation efforts alongside the regular requirements of the role
- Perform other duties as requested
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Positive and affable team player, who thrives in high performing teams
- Demonstrated bookkeeping experience and full cycle accounting support in a small business
- Experience with ERP software for small business; preferably SAGE 50 or Quickbooks
- Experience in supporting system changes, including testing new processes, and implementing updates
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
- Proficiency in financial data analysis to identify trends, variances, and insights for decision-making
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple and competing tasks/priorities
- Ability to work autonomously, take ownership of projects and present solutions
- High attention to detail, data accuracy, and motivation for continuous quality improvement
- Post-Secondary education in a relevant discipline, such as accounting, finance or business or equivalent experience; and pursuing or having a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Experience working with large datasets
- ERP migration experience
- CPA designation
BioTalent Canada offers a competitive total rewards package. Our hybrid work environment offers the flexibility to regularly work from the Ottawa office a minimum of two days per week and remotely from a designated home office.
